South Texas Spine & Surgical COVID-19 Road Ahead Statement
On behalf of South Texas Spine & Surgical Hospital,
Our hospital is proud to serve the San Antonio community and surrounding areas and we want to make you aware of the steps we are taking to do our part in keeping our community safe. We are taking guidance from HHS, CMS, Texas Hospital Association and American College of Surgeons and we fully support the adoption of these guidelines as the Novel Coronavirus pandemic is rapidly evolving. We feel it is our hospital’s responsibility to manage through this crisis for ourselves and our community. Continuing operations as is does not feel like the right thing to do. We are committed to protecting our patients, our physicians, our employees and our community and we need to be cognizant about reducing spread, conserving our supplies and being good stewards. Our professional organizations, government and region have recommended to us to postpone non-urgent elective surgery and treatment. We have followed these recommendations and for this reason, after very careful consideration, we are postponing some planned operations until there are fewer restrictions and recommendations on elective procedures. We are very sorry for the inconvenience but hope that our patients understand the goals: to save resources, which are needed urgently elsewhere, for example in intensive care and emergency medicine; to protect patients, and to protect personnel. In the times of COVID-19, there are currently shortages and delivery difficulties of emergency drugs, antibiotics, protective gowns, masks, disinfectants, and infusions worldwide. Our highest priority is to protect you as our patient from unnecessary risk. We know exactly how much patients have been preparing for planned operations but we feel it is our duty to follow the recommendations and hope that these will help to stop the rapid spread of the virus and to fight the serious course of the disease worldwide.
We thank you again for your understanding and look forward to serving you in the future. Please stay healthy
