Dr. Zavala is a bilingual San Antonio native. He brings extensive training in minimally invasive spinal surgery, scoliosis correction, degenerative spinal stenosis and herniated disc disease. He is proud to serve the communities that he grew up in by offering a conservative surgical approach matched with unsurpassed patient care. Dr. Zavala and his team are passionate about delivering scientific and methodical surgical techniques to optimize patient outcomes. Research Award: In addition to his educational accomplishments, Dr. Zavala’s research titled Early vs. Late Stem Cell Transplantation Post Spinal Cord Injury won the AANS/CNS Synthes Award for Resident Research on Spinal Cord and Spinal Column Injury in 2002. Over 1,000 neurosurgery residents compete for this prestigious award semiannually.
